Introduction of Permit Parking on Gerrard Street East,
between Jarvis Street and Sherbourne Street

The Toronto Community Council recommends the adoption of the following report
(August31, 1998) from the Acting Assistant Director, By-law Administration and
Enforcement, City Works Services:
Purpose:
To report on the introduction of permit parking on Gerrard Street East, between Jarvis Street
and Sherbourne Street, on an area basis within permit parking area 6G, to operate during the
hours of 12:01 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., 7 days a week.
Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
Not applicable.
Recommendations:
The Toronto Community Council may recommend that:
(1)permit parking be introduced on Gerrard Street East, between Jarvis Street and
Sherbourne Street, on an area basis within permit parking area 6G, to operate during the
hours of 12:01 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., 7 days a week;
(2)Schedule A of Municipal Code Chapter 400, Traffic and Parking, of the former City of
Toronto Municipal Code, be amended to incorporate Gerrard Street East, between Jarvis
Street and Sherbourne Street; and
(3)the appropriate City Officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary action to
give effect thereto, including the introduction of all necessary bills.
Background:
A request was received from Councillor Kyle Rae, on behalf of the residents, to introduce
permit parking on Gerrard Street East, between Jarvis Street and Sherbourne Street.
Comments:
Under the provisions of Municipal Code Chapter 400, Traffic and Parking, of the former
City of Toronto Municipal Code, we are required to conduct a poll of the residents to
determine if there is support to introduce permit parking.
Ballots were mailed out on May 26, 1998, with the last date for filing a response being June
26, 1998. The results of the poll are as follows:
Polling Summary
The majority of the ballots returned are in favour of permit parking on Gerrard Street,
between Jarvis Street and Sherbourne Street. It is therefore recommended that permit
parking be introduced on Gerrard Street East, between Jarvis Street and Sherbourne Street,
on an area basis within permit parking area 6G, to operate during the hours of 12:01 a.m. to
7:00 a.m., 7 days a week.
