Other Item Considered by the York Community Council
(a)The 2008 Toronto Olympic Bid.
The York community Council reports having:
(1)requested the Commissioner of Economic Development, Culture and Tourism, in
submitting the consolidated report to the Strategic Policies and Priorities Committee
scheduled for November 17, 1998, incorporating recommendations from all
Community Councils, include the following:
(a)that City Council be urged to request the TO-Bid Committee to develop an arts and
culture master plan within the context of the Olympic bid;
(b)that City Council, in conjunction with the TO-Bid Committee, be requested to
develop a transportation master plan, with an emphasis on public transit; and further
that within that plan, a rapid transit link to the airport be developed, having regard to
construction of the Eglinton subway;
(c)that City Council request the TO-Bid Committee to expand its present membership
to include representatives from a broader cross-section of Toronto's multi-cultural and
multi-racial community;
(d)that City Council be requested to consider holding additional public meetings on
an ongoing basis at the Community Councils, as the TO-Bid Committee finalizes
aspects of the process, with a view to apprising the public of its progress;
(e)that the TO-Bid Committee give consideration to the use of the lands at Eglinton
Avenue West and Black Creek Drive, as a possible location for an olympic event;
(2)received the presentation by Professor Bruce Kidd on behalf of Mr. David Crombie
regarding Toronto's bid for the 2008 Olympics; and
(3)received the deputations.
(September 1, 1998) from the Commissioner of Economic Development, Culture and
Tourism, inviting comments from the public which will be considered by focus groups on
November 7 and 14, 1998 for development of draft Olympic Principles, for presentation to
the public at two open houses on December 2 and 7, 1998, and to City Council for
consideration early in 1999; and recommending that the Community Council receive the
presentation and refer any recommendations to staff for a consolidated report to the
Strategic Policies and Priorities Committee on November 17, 1998 and to City Council on
November25, 1998.

-Ms. Marjorie Sutton, Toronto;
-Mr. Norman Hayman, Toronto; and
-Mr. Carlos Sousa, Chair, Portuguese Outreach Community.
