Subject:Company Relocation - CleanWear Products Ltd., 54 Crockford Blvd.
Ward 14, Scarborough Wexford
Purpose:
To review and highlight the activities of CleanWear Products Ltd. and the Division's working
relationship with the real estate industry and the manufacturing community in Toronto.
Funding:
None.
Recommendation:
That the report be received for information.
Background:
The office of Economic Development is in continuing contact with ICI realtors and with
resident companies currently located in Toronto. Often the office is able to facilitate the
relocation of companies within the City by understanding their requirements and by knowing
the real estate options available.
Economic Development staff have been working with CleanWear on such issues as exporting
and joint ventures since 1991. The relocation project has been a priority since March of 1997.
In co-operation with the real estate industry the division was able to secure premises on 54
Crockford Boulevard (see attached map).
Comments:
CleanWear has doubled in size from about 8,000 square feet to more than 15,000 square feet;
however, it is not clear for the moment what increase there will be in employment which
currently stands at thirty.
CleanWear manufactures disposable wear for the hospital, health and food industries as well
as lint-free static control garments for specialty clean room situations. The company has
developed a strong export market, particularly in the United States and continues to work with
the City and other levels of government on a continuing basis.
Conclusions:
Small business is an important link in the economic chain. It can be expected that CleanWear
will continue its growth and staff will maintain contact with the company in order to assist
with future activities.
