Subject:Hosting of 1999 Conference for Parks and Recreation Ontario
Purpose:
The purpose of this report is to inform Members of Council that the City of Toronto Parks and Recreation Division of the
Economic Development, Culture & Tourism Department will be hosting the annual conference for Parks and Recreation
Ontario from September 26 to 29, 1999. This year's theme is "Leisure Links."
Source of Funds:
No direct financial support is required by the host community.

Background:
Parks and Recreation Ontario is the largest professional association of its kind in the province with close to 1000 members.
The mandate of P.R.O. is to advocate on behalf of the field of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services and to provide
professional development and training opportunities. Each year a community is selected to act as host for the annual
conference/forum. The City of Toronto has been selected for 1999.
The event will be based at Metro Hall and City Hall and will make use of several City facilities and parks. Over 500
delegates are anticipated with representation from across Ontario as well as many out of province guests.
Conclusions:
The 1999 Parks and Recreation Ontario Annual Forum "Leisure Links" is an ideal opportunity for the City to profile its
many leading edge facilities, parks, programs and services. Council is encouraged to support this event and to participate in
making this year's conference a major success.
