Subject:Variances to the Etobicoke Sign By-law

 Purpose:

To advise Etobicoke Community Council of the decisions of the Sign Variance Advisory Committee at its meeting held on July 13, 1999.

Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

Not applicable.

Recommendation:

That the recommendations of the Etobicoke Sign Variance Advisory Committee with respect to the following applications for variance to the Etobicoke Sign By-law be received for information:

(1)Merrill Lynch, 3250 Bloor Street West (Kingsway-Humber);

(2)Old Mill Towers (Old Mill Restaurant), 39 Old Mill Road (Kingsway-Humber); and

(3)Premier Health Club, 1040 Islington Avenue (Lakeshore-Queensway).

Comments and/or Discussion and/or Justification:

The Sign Variance Advisory Committee at its meeting held on Tuesday, July 13, 1999, had before it for consideration the foregoing applications for variance to the Etobicoke Sign By-law. The Committee's decisions are as follows:

1.Merrill Lynch, 3250 Bloor Street West

THAT an application by Steel Art Signs, on behalf of Merrill Lynch, for variance to the Etobicoke Sign By-law to allow a 0.9 m x 2.4 m identification ground sign to be installed on a planter box located on the west side of the entrance to 3250 Bloor Street West, be approved subject to issuance of a building permit and payment of an administration fee.

2.Old Mill Towers (Old Mill Restaurant), 39 Old Mill Road

THAT an application by Paul W. Rycroft, on behalf of Old Mill Towers, for variance to the Etobicoke Sign by-law to allow the relocation of an existing third party pylon sign, identifying The Old Mill Restaurant only, to be set back 3.0 metres from Bloor Street West, be approved subject to removal of the illegal signs located partially or entirely on the Bloor Street West road allowance, and issuance of a building permit.

3.Premier Health Club, 1040 Islington Avenue

THAT an application by Neon Products Ltd., on behalf of Premier Health Club, for variance to the Etobicoke Sign by-law to allow a separate identification ground sign to identify the health club at 1040 Islington Avenue, be approved subject to:

(1)the location of the new sign to be between the existing identification and incidental ground signs, in such a manner that will reduce any interference with the visibility of the existing signs, to the satisfaction of staff; and

(2)issuance of a building permit.

The foregoing decisions are in accordance with the recommendations contained in the attached reports submitted by the Deputy Chief Building Official, Etobicoke District.
