Minutes of the Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission

Meeting No. 4

Wednesday, April 21, 1999.

 The Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission met on Wednesday, April 21, 1999, in the Main Board Room, Etobicoke Civic Centre, 399 The West Mall, commencing at 7:45 p.m. 

Members Present:

Mr. Silvio Sauro, Chair

Ms. Suzanne Lancaster

Ms. Sheila McIlraith

Ms. Maria Sbrocchi

 Confirmation of Minutes.

On motion by Ms. Sbrocchi, seconded by Ms. Lancaster, the Minutes of the meeting of the Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission held on February 24, 1998, were confirmed.

 4.1Role and Mandate of the Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission.

The Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission had before it a communication (April 13, 1999) from the City Clerk advising that the Etobicoke Community Council at its meeting held on March 30, 1999, during consideration of a communication (March 1, 1999) from Mr. S. Sauro, Chair, Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission, submitting comments on the role of the Municipal Arts Commission and its mandate to review matters related to Arts and Culture in the Etobicoke District, directed that the appropriate staff ensure that the Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission is kept advised of matters related to Arts and Culture in the Etobicoke community and given an opportunity to comment.

On motion by Ms. McIlraith, seconded by Ms. Lancaster, the Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission received the aforementioned communication.

4.2Press Release from the Chair, Arts York.

The Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission had before it a memorandum addressed to the Arts and CommunityAdvisory Committee from Ms. June Clark, Community Liaison Officer, Toronto Arts Council, submitting a press release, headed ALocal Arts Councils Ignored in Toronto Arts Council Takeover@, from Ms. Kathryn Venables, Chair, Arts York respecting the appointment of representatives to the Toronto Arts Council.

On motion by Ms. McIlraith, seconded by Ms. Lancaster, the Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission received the aforementioned communication.

4.3SUB-COMMITTEE MINUTES/REPORTS.

(i)Satellite Facilities;

(ii)Central Facility;

(iii)Arts Grant Review;

Public Art Advisory Committee - Minutes of the meetings held on January 21, 1999 and February 18, 1999.

On motion by Ms. Lancaster, seconded by Ms. Sbrocchi the Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission:

(1)received the oral report respecting Items Nos. (1), (2) and (3) and the Minutes of the Public Art Advisory Committee; and

requested the Culture Division to provide the Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission with an opportunity for input early in the study on public and private large-scale theatres in the new City of Toronto.

4.4CARD OF APPRECIATION.

The Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission had before it a greeting card (undated) from Lorena and Mark Hargot, expressing appreciation for the gift on the occasion of the birth of their son, Steven.

 The Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission adjourned its meeting at 8:55 p.m.
