Subject: Variance to the Etobicoke Sign By-law
Purpose:
To advise Etobicoke Community Council of the decisions of the Sign Variance Advisory Committee at its meeting held on
October 12, 1999.
Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
Not applicable.
Recommendation:
That the recommendations of the Etobicoke Sign Variance Advisory Committee with respect to the following applications
for variance to the Etobicoke Sign By-law be received for information:
(1) LCBO, 250 The East Mall (Cloverdale Mall) (Markland-Centennial);
(2) Midas Muffler, 5541 Dundas Street West (Markland-Centennial); and
(3) Midas Muffler, 249 Rexdale Boulevard (Rexdale-Thistletown).
Comments and/or Discussion and/or Justification:
The Sign Variance Advisory Committee at its meeting held on Tuesday, October 12, 1999, had before it for consideration
the foregoing applications for variance to the Etobicoke Sign By-law. The Committees decisions are as follows:
1. LCBO, 250 The East Mall (Cloverdale Mall)
That an application by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario for variance to the Etobicoke Sign By-law to permit the
erection of three 3'7" x 7'3" decorative banners on the exterior (east) wall of the LCBO store located at 250 The East Mall,
be approved on condition that the banners are used for accent or decorative purposes only, with no product advertising, and
issuance of a building permit.
2. Midas Muffler, 5541 Dundas Street West
That an application by Teksign Inc., on behalf of Midas Muffler, for variance to the Etobicoke Sign By-law to permit a
fascia sign on the east side wall of the Midas Muffler location at 5541 Dundas Street West, be approved, on condition that
the two existing side wall signs on the east elevation and the illegal sign on the rear wall are removed, and issuance of a
building permit.
3. Midas Muffler, 249 Rexdale Boulevard
That an application by Teksign Inc., on behalf of Midas Muffler, for variance to the Etobicoke Sign By-law to permit a
fascia sign on the west side wall of the Midas Muffler location at 249 Rexdale Boulevard, be approved subject to removal
of the two existing side wall signs, and issuance of a building permit.
