January 27, 1999
To:East York Community Council - February 17 & 18, 1999
From:Ted Tyndorf
Director of Community Planning - East District
Subject:REQUEST FOR COUNCIL'S ENDORSEMENT
OF THE APPOINTMENT OF INTERIM REPLACEMENT
MEMBERS TO EAST YORK'S LOCAL ARCHITECTURAL
CONSERVATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Purpose:
This report, on behalf of the East York Local Architectural Conservation and Advisory
Committee (LACAC), requests Council's endorsement for the appointment of three new
Committee members.
Recommendation:
- It is recommended that East York Community Council recommend to Toronto City
Council that the following 3 individuals be appointed to the East York Local Architectural
Conservation Advisory Committee on an interim basis, and until their permanent
successors are appointed:
i)Peter Carruthers;
ii)Paul Smith; and,
iii)Susan Mc Alpine.
Financial Implications:
None.
Background:
East York LACAC has been operating without a full complement of members since mid 1998.
Between June 1998 and November 1998, three of its members have resigned. Their
replacement was delayed pending approval by the City Council of a city wide committee
structure, which is still unresolved. The vacancies are affecting LACAC's ability to carry on
its normal functions.
Given that the City's Cultural Office has recently indicated that City Council will entertain
replacement of members on an interim basis, LACAC requests that Council sanction the
appointment of the 3 interim, committee members listed above.
