Committee Administrator

East York Community Council

FROM:Councillor Jane Pitfield

RE:Recycling on Bayview.

I would like to request that staff in the Solid Waste Management Services Division investigate and report back to the September meeting of East York Community Council on the feasibility of collecting recycled materials from commercial properties on the east side of Bayview Avenue between Eglinton Avenue and Davisville.

I realize that the majority of restaurants are on the west side and have their recycling picked up from the front of their premises. Could arrangements be made for the east side recyclables to be picked up at the same time? Commercial tenants in the area are indicating that they have been requested to discard glass and plastic bottles and containers with their regular waste. It is dangerous to the garbage collectors to have glass bottles in garbage bags.

I bring this to the attention of Community Council members and residents of the ward for comment and for information.

Could you please include this item on the agenda of the East York Community Council meeting being held on Thursday July 15th, 1999. I would also request that Ms. Jill Steinberg of JOV Bistro be copied on any staff response.

Thank you,

JANE PITFIELD

Councillor - Ward 1

East York

cc: Ms. Jill Steinberg, JOV Bistro, Bayview Avenue, East York, Ontario
