Clause embodied in Report No. 2 of the North York Community Council, as adopted by the North York Community Council at its meeting held on February 18, 1999.

13(d)Parking Prohibitions - Weetwood Street - North York Centre South.

The North York Community Council reports having deferred consideration of the following report to its next meeting scheduled for March 30, 1999:

The North York Community Council also reports having requested the Director, Transportation Services, District 3, to circulate a survey to the residents on Weetwood Street to ascertain whether there is public acceptance of the request to install parking prohibitions on Weetwood Street, north of Old Orchard Grove.

(January 25, 1999) from the Director, Transportation Services, District 3, recommending that Schedule VIII of By-law No. 31001, of the former City of North York, be amended to prohibit parking between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday, on both sides of Weetwood Street, for its entire length.

January 25, 1999

To:Chairman and Members of the Community Council

From:Roberto Stopnicki, Director,

Transportation Services - District 3

Subject:Parking Prohibitions: Weetwood Street

North York Centre South

Purpose:To install parking prohibitions on Weetwood Street, north of Old Orchard Grove

Source of funds:

All costs associated with the installation of the parking restrictions are included within the 1999 operating budget.

Recommendations:

To amend Schedule VIII of By-Law No. 31001, of the former City of North York, to prohibit parking between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday, on both sides of Weetwood Street, for it's entire length.

Council Reference/Background/History:

Councillor Milton Berger has advised that residents of Weetwood Street have requested the installation of parking prohibitions on both sides of the roadway. The local residents have advised that motorists associated with commercial properties on Avenue Road park their vehicles daily on Weetwood Street.

Currently, parking is permitted for up to a maximum of three hours on Weetwood Street.

Comments and/or Discussion and/or Justification:

As a result of an investigation by staff of the Transportation Services Division of the Works and Emergency Services Department, the residents' concerns have been confirmed as several vehicles were parked on Weetwood Street. A review of the location files has revealed that there have been several previous requests for enforcement of the three hour parking limit. Based on the continued complaints, it would appear that enforcement alone has been ineffective in reducing the level of on street parking.

Conclusions:

The Transportation Services Division supports amending the parking restrictions, as per the residents' request.
