Subject:Parking/Stopping Prohibition: Parent Avenue and Roding Street
North York Black Creek
Purpose:
To amend the current parking/stopping regulations on Parent Avenue and Roding Street, adjacent to St. Conrad Separate
School.
Source of funds:
All costs associated with the installation of the parking restrictions are included within the 1999 operating budget.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that Schedules VIII and IX of By-law #31001, of the former City of North York, be amended as
follows:
1) that parking be prohibited from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 pm. on the east side of Roding Street between Calvington Drive and a
point 52 metres north of Nash Drive;
2) that the stopping prohibition be removed from the south side of Parent Avenue, between Exbury Road and Roding
Street; and
3) that stopping be prohibited from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 pm., Monday to Friday, on the north side of Parent Avenue, between
Exbury Road and Roding Street.
Background:
Currently, stopping is prohibited between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 pm., Monday to Friday, on the south side of Parent Avenue,
between Exbury Road and Roding Street, and on the west side of Roding Street, between Parent Avenue and the south
limit of the St. Conrad Separate School. Parking is prohibited at any time on the east side of Roding Street, between Nash
Drive and a point 52 metres north opposite the community centre. Parking ispe4mitted for maximum periods of up to three
hours on the east die of Roding Street and the north side of Parent Avenue, opposite the school.
Discussion:
As a result of the parking/stopping activities associated with St. Conrad Separate School, vehicles parked on both sides of
Parent Avenue and Roding Street are restricting two-way traffic anc creating a dangerous situation as children are required
to cross the roadway from between parked vehicles.
To address these concerns, an amendment to the parking/stopping regulations would be appropriate.
Conclusions:
To maintain two-way traffic flow and increase the level of pedestrian/motorist safety during pick-up activities, the
Transportation Services Division would support an amendment to the parking/stopping regulations on Parent Avenue and
Roding Street.
