Subject: GTA Network: A Telecommunications Vision for the GTA

Recommendations:

The Telecommunications Steering Committee:

(1) recommended to the Policy and Finance Committee that City Council be requested to inform the Greater Toronto Co-ordinating Committee (GTCC) that Council has established a Telecommunications Steering Committee for the purpose of developing a telecommunications strategy for the City of Toronto and for the purpose of coordinating access to and use of the public Rights-of-Way and directing telecommunications activities within the City; and that any course of action that the GTCC wishes to pursue be forwarded to the Telecommunications Steering Committee first to obtain comments as it relates to the City of Toronto; and

(2) referred the document AGTA Network: A Telecommunications Vision for the GTA@ to the Policy and Finance Committee for information.

Background:

The Telecommunications Steering Committee on October 25, 1999, had before a copy of a report (September 1995) prepared by the Greater Toronto Co-ordinating Committee (GTCC) entitled AGTA Network: A Telecommunications Vision for the GTA@, which was forwarded to the Committee by Councillor John Adams, Chair.
