District 4
Subject:Gooderham Drive - One Hour Parking Limit, Scarborough Wexford
Purpose:
To investigate the need to impose a one hour parking limit during the daytime on the east side of Gooderham Drive
between Lawrence Avenue and Brian Avenue, between the hours of 9:00 a.m and 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
The $700.00 (approximate) funds associated with the installation of the parking regulation signs is available in the
Transportation Services 1999 budget, Account No. 100-TP0226.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that:
(1)the parking regulation identified in Appendix 1 of this report be adopted; and
(2)the appropriate by-law be amended accordingly.
Council Reference/Background/History:
Transportation Services is in receipt of a petition from residents of Gooderham Drive, between Lawrence Avenue and
Brian Avenue. Ten (56%) of the eighteen residents of properties abutting the east section of Gooderham Drive have signed
the petition in favour of a one hour limit on this section of road while two (13%) of the sixteen residents on the opposite
side of the road indicated their support for a one hour limit on this street.
Comments and/or Discussion and/or Justification:
At present, parking is prohibited on the west side of the street, as well as on the east side of the street to a point 65 metres
north of Lawrence Avenue. The remaining section of the east side of Gooderham Drive contains the unposted three hour
limit.
Parking on Gooderham Drive appears to be generated by the Seniors Complex on the northwest corner of Lawrence
Avenue and Gooderham Drive, and residents have also indicated that TTC commuters park on this street all day. On
Monday, May 31, 1999 at 12:00 noon, we observed sixteen cars parked on the east side of the street in the area with the
three hour limit.
Although parking is currently restricted with the three hour limit, installation of one hour limit simplifies parking
enforcement because the police can enforce this limit without a specific request from a resident.
Conclusions:
As the majority of residents who are directly abutting and would be directly impacted by the one hour limit support this
regulation, a one hour parking restriction is recommended on the east side of Gooderham Drive, between 65 metres north
of Lawrence Avenue and Brian Avenue, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
