Front Yard Parking - 586 Victoria Park Avenue -
Results of the Poll (East Toronto)
The Toronto Community Council recommends the adoption of the following report
(January6, 1999) from the Manager of Right of Way Management, Transportation
Services, District 1, Works and Emergency Services:
Purpose:
To report on the results of the poll conducted in connection with front yard parking at 586
Victoria Park Avenue. As this is an appeal and a request for an exemption from the by-law, it
is scheduled as a deputation item.
Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
Not applicable.
Recommendation:
That Toronto Community Council deny the application for front yard parking, as the result of
the poll was not favourable, as per the criteria set out in Municipal Code Chapter 400, Traffic
and Parking, of the former City of Toronto Municipal Code.
Background:
The Toronto Community Council, at its meeting of October 14, 1998, had before it my report
dated October 1, 1998, respecting a request for an exemption from Municipal Code Chapter
400, Traffic and Parking, to permit front yard parking at 586 Victoria Park Avenue.
The Toronto Community Council deferred consideration of the report until its meeting to be
held on January 20, 1999, for deputations and requested the Commissioner of Works and
Emergency Services to report at that time on the results of the poll.
Comments:
Inspection has determined that the subject property meets the physical criteria of the former
City of Toronto Municipal Code (i.e. no on-site parking, landscaping requirements, and
physical dimensions of the parking space, etc.) and there is no permit parking on this street.
A poll was conducted in accordance with Municipal Code Chapter 90, Polling and
Notifications Procedures, of the former City of Toronto Municipal Code. The area polled was
on the even side of Victoria Park Avenue, from Nos. 548 to 588, including 2477 Gerrard
Street East. The deadline for receiving the ballots was January 4, 1999. The results of the poll
were as follows:
Polling Summary
The majority of the ballots cast were opposed to the parking proposal.
This property is not eligible for front yard parking, because the polling result for front yard
parking was negative.
In view of the above, this request should be denied by Council.
