Subject:Intersection of Keystone Avenue and Beck Avenue - Installation of a northbound "Stop" sign. (East Toronto)
Purpose:
To establish clear right-of-way and improve the overall operating safety of this intersection.
Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
Funds to undertake the necessary signage adjustments in the estimated amount of $250.00 are contained in the
Transportation Services Division 1999 Current Budget request.
Recommendations:
(1)That a "Stop" sign be installed for northbound traffic on Beck Avenue at Keystone Avenue; and
(2)That the appropriate City Officials be requested to take whatever action is necessary to give effect to the foregoing,
including the introduction in Council of any Bills that are required.
Comments
At the request of Councillor Sandra Bussin and in consultation with East Toronto Councillor Tom Jakobek staff have
investigated installing a northbound "Stop" sign at this intersection to improve operational safety.
Keystone Avenue and Beck Avenue form a T-type intersection with Keystone Avenue being the through road. Both streets
operate two-way. No "Stop" signs are posted at this intersection at the present time.
Based on our assessment, the intersection of Keystone Avenue and Beck Avenue satisfies the requirement for a northbound
"Stop" control, specifically, to clearly establish right-of-way. In addition, sight lines at the intersection are reduced (because
of bushes and fence) for northbound motorists exiting Beck Avenue.
