Subject:460 Balliol Street, Removal of Private Tree - Ward 22 North Toronto
Purpose:
An application for a permit to remove one tree on private property has been filed by the property owner, Ms. Shirley
Budavari, 460 Balliol Street, Toronto, M4S 1E2. The applicant would like to replace the tree with fruit trees and a
vegetable garden.
Financial Implication:
N/A
Recommendations:
Either 1, or 2 below
- refuse to issue a permit for tree removal; or
- issue a permit for tree removal.
Comments:
The tree in question is a thirty centimetre diameter balsam fir in good condition. The tree is located near the north end of
the property adjacent to a garage accessed from a public laneway. There are only a few significant trees near this portion of
the laneway, and the fir tree provides aesthetic benefits to the community throughout the year. In the opinion of staff, the fir
tree is an asset that should be incorporated into any new landscape plans.
A notice of application sign was posted on the property for the required 14 day posting period, in order to notify the
neighbourhood and provide an opportunity for objection to the application. No written objections were received in
response to the application to remove the tree in question.
