Subject:123 Eglinton Avenue East - To Repeal Designation By-law No. 494-95
Purpose:
Since the building located at 123 Eglinton Avenue East no longer stands, the Ontario Heritage Act requires Council to
rescind the designation by-law for that property.
Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
Not applicable.
Recommendations:
That Council repeal designation By-law No. 494-95 affecting 123 Eglinton Avenue East.
Background:
The Union Carbide Building, located at 123 Eglinton Avenue East, was designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage
Act by By-law No. 494-95, passed by City Council on July 24, 1995.
The building has been legally demolished.
Comments:
Section 34 (5) of the Ontario Heritage Act states that when demolition has been completed, "the council shall pass a by-law
repealing the by-law or part thereof designating the property¼"
