June 10, 1999

To: Toronto Community Council

From: Andrew Koropeski, Director, Transportation Services, District 1

Subject: Lane, first north of College Street between Dufferin Street and Sheridan Avenue - Proposed one-way operation (Trinity-Niagara - Ward 20)

Purpose:

Designate one-way operation in the lane to increase operational safety.

Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

Funds to undertake the necessary signage adjustments in the estimated amount of $450.00 are contained in the Transportation Services Division 1999 Operating Budget.

Recommendations:

(1) That the lane first north of College Street between Dufferin Street and Sheridan Avenue be designated to operate one-way westbound; and

(2) That the appropriate City Officials be requested to take whatever action is necessary to give effect to the foregoing, including the introduction in Council of any Bills that are required.

Comments:

At the request of the owner of Premises No. 15 Bonar Place and in consultation with Trinity-Niagara Councillors Joe Pantalone and Mario Silva, Transportation staff have investigated the feasibility of designating the laneway first north of College Street between Dufferin Street and Sheridan Avenue to operate one-way westbound to improve operational safety.

The subject lane is approximately 3.2 metres wide (curb to curb) and extends for a distance of 150 metres from Dufferin Street to Sheridan Avenue. Field investigation conducted by Transportation Services= staff has confirmed that due to the narrowness of this lane, vehicles travelling in opposite directions cannot pass one another, resulting in potentially unsafe situations where one vehicle would have to back out of the lane to enable an oncoming vehicle to exit the lane.

Designating the laneway first north of College Street between Dufferin Street and Sheridan Avenue to operate one-way westbound will reduce vehicular conflicts, thereby improving safety.
