STAFF REPORT

November 10, 1999

To: Toronto Community Council

From: Angie Antoniou, Right of Way Management, Transportation Services, District 1

Subject: Koo Koo Roo California Kitchen - Operation of the Boulevard Cafe During the 1999 Cafe Season - De Lisle Avenue Flank of 1510 Yonge Street

(Midtown)

Purpose:

To update the Toronto Community Council on the issuance of a licence for a boulevard cafe on the De Lisle Avenue flank of 1510 Yonge Street, which is no longer required as the business operator has vacated the property.

Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

There are no financial implications resulting from the adoption of this report.

Recommendation:

It is recommended that this report be received for information.

Background:

City Council, at its meeting of November 25, 26 and 27, 1998, approved the continuation of the existing boulevard cafe licence on the De Lisle Avenue flank of 1510 Yonge Street, with the same terms and conditions as previously approved, i.e. 10:00 p.m. closing time, 7 days a week, and requested the Commissioner of Works and Emergency Services to report back at the end of the 1999 cafe season on the operation of the cafe.

Comments:

Periodic inspections during July and August showed that the proprietor complied with the requirements of § 313-36 of the former City of Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 313, including the closing time restriction of 10:00 p.m. On September 9, 1999, inspection determined that the restaurant was no longer in business. According to a representative of Koo Koo Roo Canada Limited, the location was vacated in mid August. Our file has been closed.

Conclusions:

Given that the business is no longer in operation, this report is submitted for information only as no further action is required by the Toronto Community Council.
