May 31, 1999

To: Toronto Community Council

From: Andrew Koropeski, Director, Transportation Services District 1

Subject: Danforth Avenue, from Broadview Avenue to Dewhurst Boulevard - Installation of parking meters on the flankage of various intersecting streets. (Don River)

Purpose:

To enhance parking opportunities for visitors/business patrons to this area.

Funding Sources, Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

Not applicable

Recommendations:

(1) That the parking regulations outlined in Appendix A of this report be adjusted/amended as indicated; and

(2) That the appropriate City Officials be requested to take whatever action is necessary to give effect to the foregoing, including the introduction in Council of any Bills that are required.

Comments:

The Parking Authority of Toronto, in consultation with Councillor Pam McConnell, Councillor Jack Layton and Mr. Andonis Artemakis, Chair of the AGreektown on the Danforth@ Business Improvement Association, have requested that parking meters be installed on the commercial flankage of several streets intersecting with Danforth Avenue between Broadview Avenue and Dewhurst Boulevard to enhance parking opportunity for visitors and business patrons.

Parking meters could be installed on sections of Gough Avenue, Ferrier Avenue, Woodycrest Avenue, Arundel Avenue, Bowden Street, Eaton Avenue, Langford Avenue and Dewhurst Boulevard, as outlined in Item Nos. 13, 14, and 15, contained in Appendix A of this report. This proposal adds 2 additional parking spaces in permit parking area 8A and will establish 28 additional parking meter spaces in the Greektown Area. I note that these metered spaces are on sections of street authorized for permit parking. However, permit holders are exempt from paying at the parking meters.
