November 3, 1999

To: Works Committee

From: Barry H. Gutteridge, Commissioner, Works and Emergency Services

Subject: Yards Rationalization Update

Purpose:

To provide an update on the status of the yard rationalization study and a listing of Works and Emergency Services locations that are surplus to the Department's operating requirements.

Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

Not applicable at this time.

Recommendations:

That this report be received for information.

Background:

Further to the January 11, 1999 and July 7, 1999 reports to Works Committee, Works and Emergency Services is continuing to review its requirement for yard locations. In addition to the nine (9) locations already declared surplus, I have identified another two (2) locations that are surplus to the requirements of Works and Emergency Services.

The Pharmacy Yard, located at 125 Pharmacy Avenue, previously used as part of the Department's Wastewater operations is now surplus to the Department's requirements.

While the Department still requires the Transportation yard property at 2430 Lawrence Avenue East, the adjacent property, formerly used by the Transportation Division, located at 2440 Lawrence Avenue East, is also surplus to the Department's requirements.

Corporate Services can now determine the future status of these sites and whether they can be declared surplus to the City's requirements.
