REQUEST FOR ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING ON OLD DUNDAS STREET WEST

Ward 27, York-Humber

Director of Transportation Services, District 1

(March 15, 1999)

Purpose:

To respond to a York Community Council request for a report on the feasibility of implementing alternate side parking on Old Dundas Street West.

Funding Sources:

None required.

Recommendation:

That York Community Council not recommend approval of implementing alternate side parking on Old Dundas Street West between Varsity Road and the westerly terminus of the street.

Background:

York Community Council, at its meeting of December 20, 1998 considered a request from Councillor Bill Saundercook for a report on the feasibility of implementing alternate side parking on Old Dundas Street West (Clause No. 4(bb) of Report No. 1).

Comments:

Old Dundas Street West traverses in an east/west direction, between Humberhill Avenue and the westerly terminus of the street, providing two-way vehicular traffic flow.

Currently on-street parking on Old Dundas Street West is legally permitted on the south side, exclusively. The parking duration is an unsigned maximum three (3) hour limit at any time.

Field surveys reveal that there are 20 curbside parking spaces available on the south side of Old Dundas Street West and potentially 14 curbside parking spaces available on the north side.

Implementing alternate side parking on Old Dundas Street West would result in the loss of 6 spaces during those periods when parking would be in effect on the north side. Accordingly, alternate side parking on Old Dundas Street West between Varsity Road and the westerly terminus of the street would not be advisable.
