INTRODUCTION OF OVERNIGHT PERMIT PARKING ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF WEATHERELL STREET, BETWEEN 36.6 METRES WEST OF JANE STREET AND RIVERCREST ROAD - Ward 27, York Humber.

Purpose:

To report on the introduction of overnight permit parking on the south side of Weatherell Street, between 36.6 metres west of Jane Street and Rivercrest Road, on a street name basis, to operate during the hours of 12:01 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., 7 days a week.

Funding Sources:

Not applicable.

Recommendations:

The York Community Council may recommend that:

(1)the City Clerk be directed to conduct a formal poll of the residents of Weatherell Street, between 36.6 metres west of Jane Street and Rivercrest Road, to determine support for the implementation of overnight permit parking;

(2)the City Clerk report the results of the poll to the York Community Council; and

(3)the appropriate City Officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary action to give effect thereto, including the introduction of all necessary bills.

Background:

A request was received from Councillor Chris Korwin-Kuczynski, on behalf of an area resident, to introduce overnight permit parking on the south side of Weatherell Street, between 36.6 metres west of Jane Street and Rivercrest Road, on a street name basis, to operate during the hours of 12:01 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., 7 days a week.

Comments:

Weatherell Street, between 36.6 metres west of Jane Street and Rivercrest Road, operates two-way traffic with a pavement width, which, varies between 7.3 metres and 8.5 metres that is presently regulated by the unsigned three-hour parking restriction on the south side of the street.

A field survey has determined that there are eight (8) potential on-street permit parking spaces available on the south side of Weatherell Street, between 36.6 metres west of Jane Street and Rivercrest Road.

Conclusions:

In accordance with By-law No. 3491-80, it is recommended that a formal poll be conducted of all residents of Weatherell Street, between 36.6 metres west of Jane Street and Rivercrest Road, to ascertain support for the implementation of overnight permit parking.
