Presentations to York Community Council
Councillor Mihevc
(October 25, 1999)
It is unprecedented at Community Councils that a local community group or a City of Toronto agency wishing to speak to
smaller groups of Councillors would be turned away from presenting information to their local councillors. This practice,
however, of denying a community group or a City of Toronto agency an opportunity to share relevant information with
local councillors is what the York Coalition on Homelessness and the Toronto Arts Council have faced at York
Community Council.
I understand that the York Coalition on Homelessness and the Toronto Arts Council have both requested the opportunity to
present relevant information to and answer question from York Community Council.
The Toronto Arts Council, for example, has to date, presented to Scarborough, North York and Etobicoke Community
Councils and they are concerned with the response they have received from the Chair of the York Community Council. I
believe that York Community Councillors should not be denied the opportunity to hear this agency.
