BY-LAW No.
To repeal By-law No. 18297 of the former Corporation of the City of Scarborough,
being "A By-law To designate the Laskey Hotel at 15 Port Union Road
as being of historical and architectural value".
WHEREAS the Council of the City of Scarborough, at its meeting of February 5, 1979,
passed By-law No. 18297, being "A By-law To designate the Laskey Hotel at 15 Port Union
Road as being of historical and architectural value" under the Ontario Heritage Act; and
WHEREAS much of the original fabric of the Laskey Hotel building was destroyed by fire in
1993 and the owner of the property made an application to demolish the remaining structure
in October 1995; and
WHEREAS the Council of the City of Scarborough failed to make a decision on the
application within 180 days as required by the Ontario Heritage Act and was deemed to have
consented to the application; and
WHEREAS the building was subsequently demolished; and
WHEREAS a by-law to repeal the original designation by-law was never passed and
registered on title to the property as required under the Ontario Heritage Act; and
WHEREAS the City of Toronto Act, 1997 provides that every by-law or resolution of the
Council of the former City of Scarborough in force before Scarborough was dissolved on
January 1, 1998 shall be deemed to be a by-law or resolution of the City of Toronto;
The Council of the City of Toronto HEREBY ENACTS as follows:
1.By-law No. 18297 of the former Corporation of the City of Scarborough, being "A By-law
To designate the Laskey Hotel at 15 Port Union Road as being of historical and architectural
value" is repealed.
2.The City Solicitor is authorized to cause a copy of this by-law to be registered in the
proper Land Registry Office against the property at 15 Port Union Road described in By-law
No. 18297.
3.The City Clerk is authorized to cause a copy of this by-law to be served upon the owners
of the property at 15 Port Union Road and upon the Ontario Heritage Foundation and to cause
notice of this by-law to be published in a newspaper having general circulation in the City of
Toronto as required by the Ontario Heritage Act.
