January 4, 2000

To: Toronto Cycling Committee

From: Jannette Porter, Promotions & Development Subcommittee

At its December 15, 1999 meeting, the Promotions and Development Subcommittee agreed to the merger of this subcommittee with the Communications Subcommittee.

Background Information:

The merger had been recommended by the Communications Subcommittee at its October 27, 1999 meeting and at the November 22, 1999 Toronto Cycling Committee, the matter had been deferred. (There had been a concern the meetings would be too lengthy and the needs of neither subcommittee not be met.)

At the Communications Subcommittee meeting November 25, 1999, members of the Promotions and Development Subcommittee were present and the combined committees discussed the pros and cons of the merger. It was put to the vote at the December 15th meeting and agreed to for the reasons outlined in the original recommendation.

From now on, meetings of the merged subcommittee will feature each of the old subcommittees at alternate meetings, with the other subcommittee at the end of the meeting. (e.g. Communications meeting with Promotions and Development at the end and vice versa at the next meeting.)

Consequently, the Promotions and Development Subcommittee recommends that the Toronto Cycling Committee approve the proposed merger.
