COMMISSIONER OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, CULTURE AND TOURISM:

The Millennium Task Force on December 20, 1999, had before it the following:

(1) report (November 12, 1999) from the Commissioner of Economic Development, Culture and Tourism, providing an update on the Toronto Millennium office and various Millennium Project activities; and recommending that this report be received for information;

(2) communication (August 25, 1999) from Mr. Neil Mendes, requesting the Task Force to consider a proposal to install flags from all over the world on the median of University Avenue; and

(3) communication (August 3, 1999) from Ms. Donna I. Fox, requesting funds to sell roses for the homeless.

Ms. Halina Cieszynska, Project Manager and Ms. Ana Costa, Community Liaison Co-ordinator, provided background information with regard to various Millennium projects, including the Millennium Tool Kit and Toronto's Guide to the Millennium Brochure, samples of which were distributed to Members.

The Millennium Task Force:

(1) requested the Commissioner of Economic Development, Culture and Tourism to:

(a) provide Members with the number of hits on the Millennium website, as well as the status of the site on a regular basis;

(b) report back on the Trans Canada Trail initiative providing more details in that regard;

(c) report back on obtaining a sponsor(s) for the Millennium Baby Birth Certificates and whether something could be added to the Millennium Baby Package by the Millennium Task Force;

(d) provide an update on the printing of the aforementioned Millennium Birth Certificate;

(e) send a communication to all BIA's with regard to the Community Banner Program and work with Economic Development Division in that regard;

(f) report back on the feasibility of inserting the Millennium logo or other memorabilia on Millennium Marriage Certificates and contact the various government agencies in that regard;

(g) contact the Air Canada Centre with regard to painting the Millennium Logo on the ice at the Centre;

(h) provide a monthly update on the status of the Millennium grants, the said update to include the financial status of the projects and whether some projects could be done in-house;

(i) provide an update on the Main Street Ontario Grant Application and, if necessary, request the Mayor to send a communication to the Minister of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation in that regard;

(j) send a communication to all Members of Council with regard to the tree planting program for the Millennium;

(k) continue to meet with appropriate persons, both internally and externally, with regard to expediting the commencement of the Polish Mural; and

(2) referred the communication (August 25, 1999) from Mr. Neil Mendes, with regard to the proposal to install flags along the centre median of University Avenue, to the Economic Development and Parks Committee for consideration; and

(3) received the communication (August 3, 1999) from Ms. Donna I. Fox.
