February 1, 2000

To: Economic Development and Parks Committee

From: City Clerk

Subject: Appointments to Fort York Community Museum Management Board and The Pier Community Museum Management Board.

Purpose:

To implement Council's process for appointing Members of Council to the Fort York Community Museum Management Board and The Pier Community Museum Management Board.

Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

Not applicable.

Recommendations:

It is recommended that:

(1) the Economic Development and Parks Committee give consideration to Members' preferences outlined in Schedule 1, and recommend to City Council the appointment of Members of Council to:

(i) Fort York Community Museum Management Board; and

(ii) The Pier Community Museum Management Board

for a term of office expiring November 30, 2000, and until their successors are appointed; and

(2) the appropriate City Officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary action to give effect thereto.

Background:

City Council, at its meeting held on April 13, 14 and 15, 1999, by its adoption, as amended, of Clause No. 2 of Report No. 6 of the Economic Development Committee, headed "Implementation of Council Decisions on Heritage Governance", established the composition of various heritage bodies. Subsequently at its meeting of November 25, 1999, by its enactment of By-law 793-1999, Council established 9 Community Museum Management Boards, and provided for the appointment of members thereto.

Section 5(3) of By-law 793-1999 provides that The Economic Development and Parks Committee shall nominate membership in the Management Board of Fort York and The Pier.

Comments:

Members of Council were recently canvassed to determine their respective interest in these appointments. The attached Schedule 1 contains a list of those Members who have indicated an interest in these appointments.

Conclusions:

It is recommended that the Economic Development and Parks Committee give consideration to Members' preferences outlined in Schedule 1, and recommend to City Council the appointment of Members of Council to the Fort York Community Museum Management Board and The Pier Community Museum Management Board.
