Subject: 2000 Operating Budget Preliminary Review
The Budget Advisory Committee on February 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 28, 2000, having completed its preliminary review of
the 2000 Operating Budget, directed that:
(1) the 2000 Operating Budget be forwarded to the relevant Standing Committees for consideration; and
(2) the Standing Committees be requested to forward their recommendations pertaining to the 2000 Operating Budget to
the Budget Advisory Committee prior to the commencement of the 'wrap-up' meeting on April 3, 2000.
The Budget Advisory Committee reports having provided the Members of the Standing Committees with the preliminary
requests of the Budget Advisory Committee for information.
The Budget Advisory Committee further reports having deferred consideration of the following reports until the 2000
Operating Budget 'wrap-up' meetings to be held on April 3, 4 and 5, 2000:

(1) (February 24, 2000) from the Commissioner of Economic Development, Culture and Tourism, entitled "Balance of
Administrative Workload Between the Toronto Arts Council and the Culture Division";

(2) (November 10, 1999) from the City Clerk, entitled "City Support for Community Festivals/Special Events and Major
Events";
(3) (November 26, 1999) from the City Clerk, entitled "Review of the Workers' Information Action Centre of Toronto";

(4) (December 1, 1999) from the City Clerk, entitled "Follow-up on Initiatives Addressing Youth Violence Arising out of

Background:
The Chief Administrative Officer and the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer made an overview presentation to the
Budget Advisory Committee on the 2000 Preliminary Operating Budget.
The Budget Advisory Committee had before it the following 2000 Operating Budget Programs:
(1) Arena Boards of Management;
(2) Culture;
(3) Customer and Business Support Services;
(4) Economic Development;
(5) Parks and Recreation; and
(6) Special Events.
