STAFF REPORT

January 4, 2000

To: North York Community Council

From: Roberto Stopnicki, Director, Transportation Services, District 3

Subject: Parking Prohibitions: Kensington Avenue

(North York Centre)

Purpose:

To prohibit daytime parking on both sides of Kensington Avenue, between Hendon Avenue and Finch Avenue West.

Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

All costs associated with the installation of the parking restrictions are included within the Division's operating budget.

Recommendations:

It is recommended that:

(1) Schedule VIII of By-Law No. 31001, of the former City of North York, be amended to delete the no parking at anytime regulations on the east side of Kensington Avenue, between Hendon Avenue and Finch Avenue West;

(2) Schedule X of By-Law No. 31001, of the former City of North York, be amended to delete the permitted 60 minutes parking, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, restrictions on the west side of Kensington Avenue, between Hendon Avenue and Finch Avenue West; and

(3) Schedule VIII of By-Law No. 31001, of the former City of North York, be amended to prohibit parking between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, on both sides of Kensington Avenue, from Hendon Avenue to Finch Avenue West.

Background:

The residents of Kensington Avenue have requested that the current parking restrictions be amended to prohibit parking on both sides of the roadway, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Currently, parking is permitted up to a maximum of 60 minutes on the west side of Kensington Avenue. On the east side of the roadway, parking is prohibited at anytime, between Hendon Avenue and Finch Avenue West.

Comments:

Councillor John Filion and Councillor Norman Gardner advised staff of this Division that the results of a survey of the residents of Kensington Avenue indicate support for the parking amendment.

Conclusions:

The installation of the parking prohibitions will address the residents' concerns for long term daytime parking.
