STAFF REPORT

January 7, 2000

To: North York Community Council

From: Roberto Stopnicki, Director, Transportation Services, District 3

Subject: Proposed Parking Prohibitions: Old Orchard Grove

(North York Centre South)

Purpose:

To prohibit parking at anytime on the north side of Old Orchard Grove, between Barse Street and Falkirk Street.

Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

All costs associated with the installation of the parking restrictions are included within the Division's operating budget.

Recommendations:

It is recommended that Schedule VIII of By-law No. 31001, of the former City of North York, be amended to prohibit parking at anytime on the north side of Old Orchard Grove, between Barse Street and Falkirk Street.

Background:

Currently, parking is permitted for up to a maximum of three hours on both sides of Old Orchard Grove, between Barse Street and Falkirk Street.

A report dealing with a previous request for the installation of daytime parking restrictions was dealt with by City Council, at it's meeting of November 25, 1998. City Council adopted the recommendation from the North York Community Council that no changes be made to the current on street parking restrictions.

Comments:

Staff of the Transportation Division of the Works and Emergency Services Department continue to receive requests from local residents to prohibit parking on the north side of Old Orchard Grove, between Barse Street and Falkirk Street.

Staff of this Division again confirmed the residents' concerns, as vehicles were parked on both sides of the roadway. This parking activity restricts the flow of two way traffic and limits access to adjacent properties. Despite numerous requests to the Toronto Police Services for the enforcement of the three hour parking limit, motorists continue to park daily on both sides of the street.

Conclusions:

The implementation of the parking prohibitions on the north side of Old Orchard Grove would improve the flow of two way traffic.
