Subject: Proposed Renaming Of Stanley Community Centre To Domenic Diluca Community Centre North York Humber
Purpose:
To provide Council with the information obtained in accordance with the Park Naming Policy critieria for the renaming of
Stanley Community Centre in honour of the late Domenic DiLuca, and to seek Council approval to proceed with the
remaming.
Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
There are no financial implications resulting from the adoption of this report.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that:
(1) Council accept the information obtained in accordance with the Parkland Naming Policy for the renaming of Stanley
Community Centre to Domenic DiLuca Community Centre; and
(2) the appropriate City officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary action to give effect thereto.
(1) Background:
Information has been obtained in accordance with the criteria outlined in the Parkland Naming Policy, as approved by City
Council November 25, 26, 27, 1998. Staff have completed a community consultation, as well as gathered other relevant
documentation, including letters of approval from the organization he belonged to and his next of kin, in order to proceed
with the renaming of Stanley Community Centre to Domenic DiLuca Community Centre.
A community meeting was organized in conjunction with Parks and Recreation staff and the local City Councillor for
Thursday December 9, 1999 with 137 residents in attendance.
The biography of Domenic DiLuca and additional information provided by the Parks and Recreation Division staff was
reviewed and validated. Although not necessary, a vote was taken on the issue in which 117 of those present voted with a
result of 109 being in favour of the renaming to Domenci DiLuca Community Centre.
Conclusions:
Given that the criteria set out in the Parkland Naming Policy has been satisfied, the Department recommends that Council
approves the renaming of Stanley Community Centre to Domenic DiLuca Community Centre.
