January 24, 2000

To: North York Community Council

From: Roberto Stopnicki, Director, Transportation Services, District 3

Subject: Parking Prohibitions: Basswood Road

(North York Centre)

Purpose:

To prohibit daytime parking on both sides of Basswood Road, between Horsham Avenue and Santa Barbara Road.

Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

All costs associated with the installation of the parking restrictions are included within the Division's operating budget.

Recommendations:

It is recommended that Schedule VIII of By-law No. 31001, of the former City of North York, be amended to prohibit parking between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, on both sides of Basswood Road, from the southerly limit of Santa Barbara Road to the southerly limit of Basswood Road.

Background:

The residents of Basswood Road have requested that the current parking restrictions on Basswood Road be extended to the north to include the section of the roadway between Horsham Avenue and Santa Barbara Road.

Currently, parking is prohibited on both sides of the Basswood Road, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, from the southerly limit of the roadway to Horsham Avenue. Parking is permitted up to a maximum of three hours on both sides of the roadway, from Horsham Avenue to Santa Barbara Road.

Comments:

Residents have, for several years, been concerned for the number of vehicles, which are parked on both sides of Basswood Road.

Despite numerous requests to the Toronto Police Services for enforcement of the three hour parking limit, motorists continue to park daily on both sides of the street.

Conclusions:

The installation of the parking prohibitions will address the residents' concerns for long term daytime parking.
