To: North York Community Council
From: Roberto Stopnicki, Director, Transportation Services, District 3
Subject: Parking Prohibitions: Cameron Avenue
(North York Centre)
Purpose:
To amend the parking prohibitions on the south side of Cameron Avenue adjacent to the Cameron Public School.
Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
All costs associated with the amendments to the parking prohibitions are included in the Divisions' operating budget.
Recommendation:
It is recommended that Schedules IX and X of By-law No. 31001, of the former City of North York, be amended to permit
short term parking on the south side of Cameron Avenue, adjacent to the Cameron Public School.
Background:
At the request of Ms. Linda Anderson, Principal, Cameron Public School, staff of the Transportation Services Division
reviewed the existing parking prohibitions/restrictions on the south side of Cameron Avenue, adjacent to the Cameron
Public School.
Currently, stopping is prohibited on the south side of Cameron Avenue, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday to
Friday, from Radine Road to a point 60 metres west. On the remaining portion of Cameron Avenue adjacent to the school,
parking is permitted for periods of up to a maximum of 15 minutes, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Comments:
Observations by staff of this division concluded that the existing permitted parking zone on the south side of Cameron
Avenue is insufficient to meet the needs of the parents. In particular, the zone does not extend to the access to the school
which serves the Kindergarten classrooms.
Conclusions:
In order to improve the drop off and pickup conditions at the east limit of the Cameron Public School, the existing parking
restrictions should be amended.
