 STAFF REPORT

January 31,2000

To: North York Community Council

From: Roberto Stopnicki, Director, transportation Services, District 3

Subject:All Way Stop Control: Esgore Drive at Haddington Avenue

(North York Centre South)

Purpose:

To respond to a request to install an all way stop control at the intersection of Esgore Drive at Haddington Avenue, and recommend no action be taken.

Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

There are no financial implications resulting from the adoption of this report.

Recommendations:

It is recommended that the report be received for information and that no actions be taken.

Background:

Currently, eastbound and westbound traffic on Haddington Avenue is required to stop at Esgore Drive. There are stop controls on Esgore Drive two blocks to the north and south of Haddington Avenue at Ridley Boulevard and Brooke Avenue, respectively.

At the request of the South Armour Ratepayers Association, the Transportation Services Division completed an all way stop study at the intersection of Esgore Drive and Haddington Avenue. The most recent study, which was completed in June of 1999, was one of four all way stop studies completed since 1993.

Comments:

As with the previous three studies, the results concluded that the technical requirements for the installation of an all way stop control were not satisfied. Specifically, existing traffic volumes satisfy the requirements to an extent of 49%.

During the previous three years there have been five property damage collisions. Motorist and pedestrian sight lines were found to be unobstructed for all approaches to the intersection.

Conclusions:

As with previous studies, this Division does not support the installation of an all way stop control at the intersection of Esgore Drive at Haddington Avenue.
