STAFF REPORT
March 3, 2000
To: North York Community Council
From: Roberto Stopnicki, Director, Transportation Services, District 3
Subject:Parking Prohibitions: Johnston Avenue
Purpose:
To prohibit parking on the south side of Johnston Avenue, west of Pewter Road, within the vicinity of 165 Johnston
Avenue.
Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
All costs associated with the installation of the parking prohibition are included within the Division's Operating Budget.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that Schedule VIII of By-law No. 31001, of the former City of North York, be amended to prohibit
parking at anytime on the south side of Johnston Avenue, from the westerly limit of Pewter Road to a point 42 metres
westerly thereof.
Background:
This Division has reviewed a request from the resident at 165 Johnston Avenue, to consider prohibiting parking at anytime
on the south side of the roadway, immediately west of Pewter Road.
Currently, with the exception of the 15 metre to corner parking prohibitions on both sides of Johnston Avenue, west of
Pewter Road, parking is permitted on both sides of Johnston Avenue between Pewter Road and Radine Road, for periods
of up to a maximum of three hours.
Comments:
As the majority of vehicles parked on the roadway for short periods of time, enforcement of the three hour parking limit
was ineffective at reducing the current parking activities.
Staff of the Transportation Services Division has confirmed that on street parking is still occurring.
Conclusion:
This Division supports the request to prohibit parking at anytime on the south side of Johnston Avenue.
