 STAFF REPORT

March 3, 2000

To: North York Community Council

From: Roberto Stopnicki, Director, Transportation Services, District 3

Subject:Parking Prohibitions: Grandravine Drive, west of Derrydown Road

(North York Black Creek)

Purpose:

To implement parking prohibitions on the north side of Grandravine Drive, west of derrydown Road.

Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

All costs associated with the installation of the parking prohibitions are included within the Division's Operating Budget.

Recommendations:

It is recommended that Schedule VIII of By-law No. 31001, of the former City of North York, be amended to prohibit parking on the north side of Grandravine Drive, from the west limit of Derrydown Road to a point 32 metres west.

Background:

The Transportation Services Division was requested to investigate a concern that vehicles, when parked on the north side of Grandravine Drive west of Derrydown Road, create a sight obstruction for motorists while exiting from the driveway to 2 Derrydown Road.

Currently, there is a 15 metre to corner parking prohibition on the north side of Grandravine Drive, west of Derrydown Road. To the west of the corner prohibitions, parking is permitted for periods of up to a maximum of three hours.

Comments:

An investigation by staff of this Division confirmed that vehicles are continually parked on the north side of Grandravine Drive, west of Derrydown Road, obstructing the view of westbound drivers on Derrydown Road. As these vehicle are generally parked for short periods of time, traditional three hour parking enforcement has not been effective.

Staff have confirmed the residents' concern, as parked vehicles would obstruct the visibility of westbound vehicles on Derrydown Road.

Conclusion:

The implementation of parking restrictions would not significantly impact available on street parking but would improve the level of safety for motorists on Derrydown Road and exiting from the driveway at 2 Derrydown Road.
