Subject:Temporary Road Closure: Willowdale Avenue

(North York Centre)

Purpose:

To temporarily close a portion of Willowdale Avenue to accommodate the 2^nd Annual Willowdale Avenue Street Party sponsored by the North York Chamber of Commerce.

Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

All costs associated with the temporary closure of a portion of Willowdale Avenue, excluding the application fee, are included within the Division's Operating Budget.

Recommendations:

It is recommended that:

1.by enactment of a confirmatory By-law adopting this report, Willowdale Avenue be closed temporarily on Sunday May 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Maplehurst Avenue to Spring Garden Avenue, subject to the applicant's compliance with procedural By-law No. 27433 of the former City of North York; and

2.during the temporary closure, there shall be no use of the closed road for vehicular traffic except under the authority of a permit issued by the Commissioner of Works and Emergency Services Department. The permit will identify any conditions imposed by the Toronto Police, Fire and Ambulance Services.

Background:

A similar event was conducted at this location last year without incident.

 Comments:

The Transportation Services Division of the Works and Emergency Department has received no objection from and affected Departments, Divisions or agencies, subject to the following condition from Fire Services:

l The applicant shall insure that the area to be barricaded off is clear of parked vehicles and obstacles that would interfere with the movement of Fire Services vehicles, in the event of an emergency, and that personnel be readily available to remove the barricades in order not to impede the movement of the Fire Services vehicles should an emergency occur. Further, the organizers of the event are aware that should an emergency arise within the involved area, it could well interrupt the program as planned.

 Conclusions:

The Transportation Services Division supports the temporary closure of a portion of Willowdale Avenue, as requested by the applicant.
