STAFF REPORT
March 6, 2000
To: North York Community Council
From: Roberto Stopnicki, Director, Transportation Services, District 3
Subject: Driveway Width Variance: 1 Hazelglen Avenue (North York Centre)
Purpose:
The property owner has requested to maintain two driveway openings totalling 11.1m.
Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
There will be no financial impact resulting from the recommendation of this report.
Recommendations
It is recommended that the total width of the driveway be reduced to 9.1m to conform with the relevant policy for circular
driveways.
Background:
The owner claims that the curb cut was not filled in by the City and as a result his Contractor paved the driveway to the
width of the original single curb cut. It should be noted that the circular driveway was not constructed in accordance to the
submitted and subsequently approved plans which indicated a total driveway opening of 9.0m.
The agreement signed by the applicant, clearly states that he was to apply for a paving permit and not pave the driveway
until City crews were sent to the location, to complete any required concrete work. Crews are sent to the location, after the
applicant advises the City the he is ready to intiate paving of the driveway.
Conclusions:
The circular driveway as constructed does not conform to the policy adopted by North York Council Resolution 89-57,
which states that for lot frontages in excess of 21 metres, the City will allow 2 curb cuts not to exceed 9.1 metres, and is
contrary to submitted and approved plans.
