POLICY AND FINANCE COMMITTEE:
City Council, at its meeting held on November 23, 24 and 25, 1999, had before it Clause No. 16 contained in Report No. 5
of The Works Committee, headed AOther Items Considered by the Committee@.
Council directed that notwithstanding subsection 127(5) of the Council Procedural By-law, the following Item (m),
embodied in the aforementioned Clause be struck out and referred to the Policy and Finance Committee for further
consideration:
(m) Feasibility of Direct Purchasing as a
Method of Purchasing Commodities.
The Works Committee reports having received the following report for information:
(September 22, 1999) from the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer providing information requested by Council at its
meeting on July 6, 7 and 8, 1999, respecting the feasibility of direct purchasing as a method of purchasing commodities;
concluding that the current process of purchasing commodities which provides all interested suppliers, whether
manufacturers or distributors, an opportunity to compete and provide bids for City requirements should be maintained; and
recommending that this report be received for information.
(Councillor Augimeri, at the Council meeting held on November 23, 24 and 25, 1999, declared her interest in the
foregoing Item (m), in that her husband is a shareholder in a company that deals with environmentally-responsible goods.)
