Given that the Toronto Police Service occupies buildings owned by the City of Toronto and it is the City that is responsible for exterior and infrastructure issues, it is requested that the Policy & Finance Committee review the requirements for providing accessible parking spaces at city-owned police facilities and provide any funds that may be required to ensure that adequate accessible parking is consistent at all police facilities.

Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

The Toronto Police Services Board has not been advised about specific financial implications with regard to this matter at this time.

Recommendations:

It is recommended that:

(1) the Policy & Finance Committee review the requirements for providing accessible parking spaces at city-owned police facilities; and

(2) the Policy & Finance Committee provide the funds associated with recommendation #1 to ensure that adequate accessible parking is consistent at all police facilities.

Background:

At its meeting on December 9, 1999, the Toronto Police Services Board was in receipt of the following report NOVEMBER 19, 1999 from Norman Gardner, Chairman:

"Subject: ACCESS TO TORONTO POLICE SERVICE FACILITIES BY PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED CUSTOMERS - RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE POLICY AND BUDGET SUBCOMMITTEE

It is recommended that:

(1) The Board receive this report.

Background:

The Board received the foregoing report and Mr. Parker's deputation and approved the following Motions:

1. THAT, given that the Toronto Police Service occupies buildings owned by the City of Toronto and it is the City that is responsible for exterior and infrastructure issues, the Board request the City of Toronto to review the requirements for providing accessible parking spaces at police facilities; and

2. THAT the City of Toronto provide the funds associated with Motion No. 1 to ensure that adequate accessible parking is consistent at all police facilities.
