Item No. 1
TORONTO ZOO
INTERNAL MEMORANDUM
TO: Board of Management
Toronto Zoo

SUBJECT: DISPOSTION OF DOMAIN RIDE EQUIPMENT
DATE: 2000-01-14
Recommendation:
It is recommended that approval be granted to dispose of the Domain Ride System, including the demolition of
sections of the track and the sale or auction of the cars and associated equipment.
Background:
The Revenue and Visitor Experience Enhancement Study was adopted by the Board in October of 1998. The Forrec Study
identified, amongst other recommendations, the requirement for Zoomobile Circulation Improvements and the closure and
decommissioning of the Domain Ride.
The Zoomobile Circulation Improvements project was identified in the 1999-2004 Capital Works Program for
implementation in 1999/00. The project included the retrofit of the old Domain Ride garage and removal of sections of the
track to accommodate the new Zoomobile route. Council approved the 1999-2004 Capital Works Program in April 1999.
The Zoomobile Circulation Improvements Project has been carried forward in the 2000-2005 Capital Works Program.
In accordance with Section 9 of the tripartite agreement between the City of Toronto, the Toronto and Region Conservation
Authority and the Board of Management of the Toronto Zoo, the prior resolution of Council is required for the
disposition/sale of the Domain Ride and Equipment. Consequently, subject to the approval of the Board, staff will request
approval of City Council to dispose of Domain Ride assets including the sale of associated equipment, vehicles, and the
demolition of select sections of the track to permit the Zoomobile Circulation Improvements project to proceed.
