STAFF REPORT
January 10, 2000
To: Toronto Community Council
From: Director, Transportation Services District 1
Subject: Edgewood Avenue, west side from a point 47.2 metres north of Maughan Crescent to a point 74.7 metres further
north - Adjustment of the "No Parking 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m." prohibition
(East Toronto)
Purpose:
To report on a request to adjust the existing parking prohibition from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., on the west side of Edgewood
Avenue from a point 47.2 metres north of Maughan Crescent to a point 74.7 metres further north, to apply from 8:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
Funds to undertake the necessary signage adjustments in the estimated amount of $400.00 are contained in Transportation
Services Division 2000 Operating Budget interim appropriations.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that:
(1) the parking prohibition from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the west side of Edgewood Avenue from a point 47.2 metres
north of Maughan Crescent to a point 74.7 metres further north, be rescinded;
(2) parking be prohibited from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, on the west side of Edgewood Avenue from a
point 47.2 metres north of Maughan Crescent to a point 74.7 metres further north; and
(3) that the appropriate City Officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary action to implement the foregoing,
including the introduction in Council of any Bills that might be required.
Comments:
At the request of Councillor Tom Jakobek, Transportation Services has investigated adjusting the hours and days of the
parking prohibition on Edgewood Avenue in front of Corpus Christie School, to allow parking earlier in the evening and at
anytime on the weekends.
Edgewood Avenue from Eastwood Road to Maughan Crescent operates two-way with a pavement width of 8.5 metres.
Parking is prohibited on the entire east side of the street and on the west side from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., daily, from a
point 47.2 metres north of Maughan Crescent to a point 74.7 metres further north (in front of Corpus Christie School).
Parking is otherwise allowed on the west side of the street. Permit parking regulations apply overnight.
Based on our assessment, which included consultation with representatives of Corpus Christie School, the parking
prohibition could be adjusted to apply from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Implementation of the above-noted proposal would not adversely affect the operational safety of the street but will increase
on-street parking opportunities in the early evening Monday to Friday and all day on the weekends.
