STAFF REPORT
January 31, 2000
To: Toronto Community Council
From: Manager, Right of Way Management, Transportation Services, District 1
Subject: Implementation of two-sided Overnight Permit Parking on Davenport Road, between Dufferin Street and
Lightbourne Avenue
(Davenport)
Purpose:
To report on the introduction of permit parking on both sides of Davenport Road, between Dufferin Street and Lightbourne
Avenue.
Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
There are no financial implications resulting from the adoption of this report.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that:
(1) permit parking be introduced on both sides of Davenport Road, between Dufferin Street and Lightbourne Avenue,
within permit area 3E, to operate during the hours of 12:01 a.m. to 7:00 a.m., 7 days a week;
(2) Part A of Schedule XXVI (Permit Parking), of Municipal Code Chapter 400, Traffic and Parking, of the former City of
Toronto Municipal Code, be amended to incorporate two-sided permit parking on Davenport Road, between Dufferin
Street and Lightbourne Avenue; and
(3) the appropriate City Officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary action to give effect thereto.
Background:
A request was received from Councillor Betty Disero, on behalf of the area residents, to introduce permit parking on both
sides of Davenport Road, between Dufferin Street and Lightbourne Avenue.
Comments:
Davenport Road, between Dufferin Street and Lightbourne Avenue, operates two-way traffic, eastbound and westbound
with a pavement width of 14.02 metres. Permit parking is currently allowed on the north side, between the hours of 12:01
a.m. and 7:00 a.m., 7 days a week.
This section of Davenport Road, between Dufferin Street and Lightbourne Avenue, is sufficiently wide enough to enable
two-sided permit parking. Inspection by staff confirmed that this would increase the number of parking spaces on this
section by 26 spaces without adversely affecting traffic operation.
Conclusions:
Given that Davenport Road, between Dufferin Street and Lightbourne Avenue, is already authorized for permit parking on
the north side, no poll is required to obtain support for the implementation of overnight permit parking on both sides of the
street.
The proposal will provide an additional 26 parking spaces for residents on this portion of Davenport Road. It is therefore,
recommended that permit parking be introduced on both sides of Davenport Road, between Dufferin Street and
Lightbourne Avenue.
