STAFF REPORT
January 25, 2000
To: Toronto Community Council
From: Joe Halstead, Commissioner Economic Development Culture and Tourism
Subject: Request for Removal of City Tree at 121 Runnymede Road
High Park
Purpose:
A request has been received from Mr. George M. Harasymowycz, acting on behalf of Mr. Mikilaj Semczyszyn, owner of
121 Runnymede Road, Toronto, Ontario, M6S 2Y6, for the removal of one City-owned tree located at the above-noted
address. The applicant wishes to fill in the existing driveway, which is below grade, and install front yard parking on the
opposite side of the tree. A copy of the applicant's request is attached (Attachment No. 1).
Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
There are no financial implications resulting from the adoption of this report.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that:
(1) the removal of the City-owned tree be denied.
Background:
The tree in question is a 47 cm diameter Norway Maple in fair condition, valued at $2331.82 and does not qualify for
routine removal at this time. If Council should approve the removal of the tree, contrary to the recommendation of staff, it
should be conditional upon the applicant paying all costs related to the value of the tree and the associated removal and
replacement costs for a total of $3244.00.
Conclusions:
Because this is a healthy tree in fair condition, this Department is opposed to the removal.
