DIRECTIONAL ADVISORY SIGNS ON DUFFERIN STREET AT

ROSELAWN AVENUE AND CASTLEFIELD AVENUE

Ward 28, York Eglinton.

Director of Transportation Services, District 1

(December 29, 1999)

Purpose:

To respond to a request from York Community Council to report on improved directional advisory signs for Roselawn Avenue east of Dufferin Street.

Financial Implications and Impact Statement:

The funds associated with the manufacture and installation of Roselawn Avenue directional advisory signs, estimated at $500.00, are contained in the Transportation Services Division 2000 Current Estimates.

Recommendation:

It is recommended that this report be received for information.

Background:

York Community Council, at its meeting of December 2, 1999, directed staff to report on the installation of appropriate advisory signs for northbound and southbound motorists on Dufferin Street indicating the continuation of Roselawn Avenue eastbound, via Castlefield Avenue (Clause No. 7(b) of Report No. 12 of York Community Council).

Comments:

The portion of Roselawn Avenue that extended east from Dufferin Street to Castlefield Avenue was recently closed at Castlefield Avenue in conjunction with the residential redevelopment of the former Fairbank Lumber property located on the southeast corner. Accordingly, drivers travelling on Roselawn Avenue west of Dufferin Street or those on Dufferin Street wishing to continue eastbound on Roselawn must now divert to Castlefield Avenue and pick up Roselawn beyond the closure.

We have reviewed the information signage to motorists in this area. As a result of this review, we will be installing additional advisory signs on Dufferin Street at Castlefield Avenue and Roselawn Avenue to inform motorists to use Castlefield Avenue to access Roselawn Avenue east of Dufferin Street. These additional signs should address the confusion currently being experienced by motorists in the area.
