Introduction of a Two-Hour Parking Restriction
Both Sides of Hay Avenue (Lakeshore-Queensway)
The Etobicoke Community Council recommends the adoption of the following report
(January 18, 2000) from the Director of Transportation Services, District 2:
Purpose:
To propose the introduction of a two-hour parking restriction on both sides of Hay
Avenue between Royal York Road and a point 36.5 metres west thereof.
Funding Sources:
The funds associated with the introduction of the appropriate regulatory signage are
contained in the Transportation Services Division Operating Budget.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that:
(1) parking be restricted to two hours on both sides of Hay Avenue between
Royal York Road and a point 36.5 metres west thereof; and
(2) the appropriate City officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary
action to give effect thereto.
Background:
City Council at its meeting held on April 16, 1998, adopted Clause No. 7 contained in
Report No. 4 of The Etobicoke Community Council, headed "Introduction of One Hour
Parking Restriction - Hay Avenue", (Attachment No. 1). This clause recommended, in
part, that "this matter be reviewed in six months to ensure that the introduction of this
regulation has not had a negative impact on the residential community to the west of
Royal York Road in the vicinity of this business district." In November 1999, staff of
the Transportation Services Division, District 2, had a request forwarded by Councillor
Jones (Attachment No. 2), from the Mimico Village BIA, to have the one hour
restriction changed to two hours. A map of the area is Attachment No. 3.
Comments:
To date, staff have not received any complaints from the residential community to the
west of Royal York Road in the vicinity of this business district relating to long-term
parking by employees of the businesses in the area. The Mimico Village BIA made
arrangements in 1998 for staff of the businesses to park on private property at the
local church.
An introduction of a two-hour parking restriction will still not have any negative effects
on the adjacent residential area and will be of greater benefit to customers of the local
businesses.
Conclusions:
Based on the staff review of this matter and the support of the Mimico Village BIA, the
introduction of a two-hour parking restriction on Hay Avenue would be appropriate.
