Removal of Parking Prohibition
St. Georges Boulevard (Kingsway-Humber)
The Etobicoke Community Council recommends the adoption of the following report
(January 20, 2000) from the Director of Transportation Services, District 2:
Purpose:
To propose the removal of the "No Parking Anytime" prohibition from the south side
of St. Georges Boulevard, between York Road and a point 104.0 metres east thereof.
Financial Implications and Impact Statement:
The funds associated with the introduction of the appropriate regulatory signage are
contained in the Transportation Services Division Operating Budget.
Recommendations:
It is recommended that:
(1) the current "No Parking Anytime" prohibition on the south side of
St. Georges Boulevard be amended to allow for short-term on-street parking between
York Street and a point 104.0 metres easterly; and
(2) the appropriate City officials be authorized and directed to take the necessary
action to give effect to the foregoing.
Background:
In October 1998, a petition was submitted on behalf of the residents of St. Georges
Boulevard residing between Islington Avenue and York Road, requesting the
introduction of a "No Parking Anytime" prohibition on this section of St. Georges
Boulevard. In response to this request, staff polled the affected residents of St.
Georges Boulevard between Islington Avenue and York Road to obtain their views on
this proposal. The following chart summarizes the results of this poll:

In response to this request, a report was presented to the Etobicoke Community
Council on January 20, 1999, recommending the introduction of a "No Parking
Anytime" prohibition on both sides of St. Georges Boulevard between Islington
Avenue and York Road. This report was deferred pending further consultation with the
affected residents.
This further consultation was requested as a result of additional input received by one
of the Ward Councillors from his constituents to the effect that prohibiting parking at
all times may be too onerous a regulation, to the detriment of visitor parking.
To address the Council directive, staff conducted a further survey. Staff polled the
affected residents of St. Georges Boulevard between Islington Avenue and York Road
to further consult with them on the proposal outlined in the petition. The following
chart summarizes the results of this poll:

In response to this request, a report was presented to Etobicoke Community Council
on March 30, 1999, recommending the introduction of a "No Parking Anytime"
prohibition on both sides of St. Georges Boulevard between Islington Avenue and
York Road. This recommendation was implemented.
In November 1999, the Ward Councillor received a request from the residents who
reside on the south side of St. Georges Boulevard east of York Road, requesting that
the current "No Parking Anytime" prohibition on the south side of St. Georges
Boulevard be amended to allow for short-term on-street parking for a period not
longer than 3 hours.
Comments:
In response to this request, staff sent survey questionnaires to the eleven affected
residents who reside on St. Georges Boulevard between York Road and the west limit
of Don Bosco Secondary School, to obtain their views on the proposal to allow
short-term parking on the south side of St. Georges Boulevard east of York Street
(Attachment No. 1). The following chart summarizes the results of this poll:

A map of the area is Attachment No. 2.
St. Georges Boulevard between Islington Avenue and York Road is a two-lane
roadway. Parking is prohibited at all times on both sides of St. Georges Road between
Islington Avenue and York Road.
Conclusion:
Based on the staff examination of this matter and the favourable consensus of the
affected residents, Council's endorsement of the recommendations contained herein
would allow for some short-term parking which the residents have requested and is
therefore considered appropriate.
