Operation of Mississauga Transit Buses
on Burnhamthorpe Road
The Etobicoke Community Council recommends that:
(1) Mississauga Transit be requested to consider short-turning the Mississauga
buses at the Burnhamthorpe Road/Mill Road bus loop after 7:00 p.m.;
(2) Mississauga Transit also be requested to consider the feasibility of short-turning
their buses during other non-peak periods; and
(3) the Toronto Transit Commission be requested to support this proposal by coordinating their
bus schedules to coincide with Mississauga Transit.
The Etobicoke Community Council submits the following communication (January 4, 2000)
from the Chair, Toronto Transit Commission:
At its meeting on Wednesday, January 12, 2000, the Commission had before it the attached
letter dated December 24, 1999, from Mr. Angus McDonald, Commissioner, Transportation
and Works, City of Mississauga, regarding the operation of Mississauga Transit Buses on
Burnhamthorpe Road.
At this same meeting, the Commission also received deputations and several other
communications with respect to this matter.
After hearing the deputations and considering the contents of the aforementioned
communications, the Commission adopted the following:
"That the Etobicoke Community Council be requested to recommend to the next meeting of the
Toronto City Council any steps they deem necessary with respect to this matter."
The Commission also reports having taken the following action with respect to this matter:
"1. That the Commission instruct the Chair to write to Mayor McCallion and Mr. Angus
McDonald thanking them for their correspondence of November 25, 1999 and December 24,
1999 respectively.
2. Request Mayor McCallion and/or Mr. McDonald, or staff with appropriate authority to meet
with representatives of the Burnhamthorpe Residents for Traffic Safety (BRTS), with
appropriate authority, TTC staff, Chair Moscoe and a representative of the Mayor's Office to
determine if a more acceptable compromise can be reached later this month, with the
assistance of the Greater Toronto Services Board, if required; and that this matter be
deferred to the March Commission meeting."
The foregoing is forwarded to the Etobicoke Community Council for information and
consideration of the above-noted request by the Commission.
(A copy of the Attachment, referred to in the foregoing communication, was circulated to all
Members of Council with the agenda for the Etobicoke Community Council meeting of
January 20, 2000, and a copy is on file in the office of the City Clerk.)
