Background:

(i) Hockey Hall of Fame, Board of Directors:

City Council at its meeting held on February 2, 3 and 4, 1999, by its adoption, as amended, of Clause No. 1 of Report No. 1 of the Striking Committee, nominated the following Members of Council for appointment to the Hockey Hall of Fame, Board of Directors, for a term of office expiring at the next Annual Meeting, now scheduled for March 28, 2000:

J. Flint

D. Holyday (Mayor's Representative)

C. Korwin-Kuczynski.

The City Clerk is in receipt of a letter dated January 11, 2000, from the Secretary and General Counsel of the Hockey Hall of Fame, requesting written notice of the City of Toronto's nominations no later than Friday, February 4, 2000, for election at the March 28, 2000 Annual Meeting for a term of office expiring at the Annual Meeting of the Board in the Spring 2001.

The Hockey Hall of Fame has advised that since such upcoming term of office runs past this term of Council, the City of Toronto could nominate its candidates, if it so wishes, for a term expiring on November 30, 2000, and until their successors are appointed, at which time the incoming Council could decide whether it wished to continue or amend these appointments, if necessary.

The Striking Committee also submits the following communication (January 5, 2000) from Councillor Joe Pantalone, Trinity Niagara:

I am writing to submit my resignation as City Council's appointee on the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts Board of Management.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The Striking Committee also submits the following communication (February 1, 2000) from Councillor Mario Giansante, Kingsway-Humber:

I would request that my name be withdrawn for consideration for appointment to the Hockey Hall of Fame, Board of Directors, and I wish to lend my support to the three Councillors who presently serve on the Board.

_________

The following Members of Council appeared before the Striking Committee in connection with the foregoing matter:

Councillor Joanne Flint, North York Centre South

Councillor Doug Holyday, Markland-Centennial

Councillor Chris Korwin-Kuczynski, High Park

(A copy of Schedule 1, referred to in the foregoing report dated January 25, 2000, from the City Clerk was forwarded to all Members of Council with the agenda of the Striking Committee for its meeting held on February 1, 2000, and a copy thereof is also on file in the office of the City Clerk.)

Respectfully submitted,
